The database tree
Left of the games list, the tree shows what the open database contains. Select a node and the list shows only those games; select the database itself to see them all. The tree stays as you leave it: the next time the database is opened, here or after closing Pragma Chess, the same nodes are open and the same one is selected.
- Board ▸ Position: the games in which the position on the board occurs, whatever the order of the moves.
- Board ▸ Variant: the games that begin with exactly the moves played on the board.
- Me, Friend, Opponent: the players you named with “Who Is This?”.
- ECO: the games by opening code.
- Tournament/Event and Year.
- Time Control: the time controls the games were played at, from the fastest — Blitz 3+2, Rapid 10+5, Classical 90+30, Correspondence 1 day. Games from lichess.org and chess.com bring theirs; for any other game, click the names of the players above the board and write it in Time Control, as players say it (3+2: three minutes, two seconds added at each move).
- Study: the studies the games came from — a lichess study connected as a source, or games whose PGN carries the tags
StudyNameandChapterName— each with its chapters in the study's order. Select a study for all its games, or a chapter for its own. - Source: the games that came from lichess.org, chess.com or torneionline.com.
- Endgames: the games that start from an endgame, by family — Basic Mates, Pawn Endings, Rook Endings… — and, under each, by material: K+R+P vs K+R, the stronger side first.
- Tactics: the puzzles by theme — Pin, Skewer, Fork, Discovered Attack, Deflection…
- Trash: the games you threw away.
Position and Variant follow the board: move through a game and their counts change. Double-click a node with a single game, and that game opens.
